Barnyard Bulletin | October 2026
Welcome to the Barnyard Bulletin
🍂It’s feeling like fall 🍂
I’m so cute, even the leaves fall for me!

Monthly Updates:
🍁October at The Little Red Barn 🍁
This month, our infants and toddlers will celebrate Dr. Seuss and his wonderful children’s books while developing an appreciation for literature. We’ll explore books more deeply through reading and discovering their purpose.
This Months Theme: Dr. Suess
Weekly themes: Dr. Suess, Ball Holder, Color Me Happy, Feeling Blocks
Why is Early Literacy so foundational?
Reading aloud offers an excellent opportunity to provide exposure to rich language experiences and engage in fun activities to build language as part of a daily routine.
In addition, five early literacy skills were also moderately correlated with later literacy achievement, including teaching
- concepts of print: knowledge of print conventions (left-right, front-back) and concepts (book cover, author, text)
- print knowledge: a combination of alphabet knowledge, concepts of print and early decoding
- reading readiness: a combination of alphabetic knowledge, concepts of print, vocabulary, memory, and phonological awareness
- oral language: the ability to produce or comprehend spoken language, including vocabulary and grammar
- visual processing: the ability to match or discriminate visually presented symbols
Here is an additional resource with instructional suggestions that support preschool, emergent literacy:

Welcome baby Roman!

Reminders:
>> 🍂 Fall Clothing Check
Colorado mornings can start getting chilly! Please be sure to send a jacket or sweatshirt daily along with appropriate walking shoes. Some kiddos may need some cooler weather clothes options, as the season continues to change. Teachers will be notifying you if your kiddo need different clothes.
Please ensure that your kiddo has closed-toed walking shoes
for outdoor play, if your child is mobile!
🏷️Friendly Labeling Reminder
Please make sure all of your child’s belongings are clearly labeled with their full first and last name! This includes, but is not limited to items such as:
• Bottles/sippy cups
• Food containers
• Water bottles/sippy cups
• Sleep sacks
• Extra clothes
• Backpacks and lunch boxes; personal belongings
Proper labeling helps us keep classrooms organized, ensures belongings are returned to the correct child. We highly recommend using sticker labels whenever possible, as Sharpie and Expo marker labels can fade or rub off throughout the day. 😊
>> 🤧 Cold and Flu Season is Coming Up!
We encourage you to help us keep your little ones and our teachers healthy by keeping your child home when they are feeling unwell and communicating any symptoms or illnesses with us. Just as a reminder children displaying fever (100.4+), with multiple symptoms are unable to attend, until 24 hrs. symptom free.
Please make sure you are washing your child’s hands upon entering their classroom each morning. Starting the day with clean hands helps reduce the spread of germs while building healthy habits from an early age. 🧼💛
>> 📲 Keep Us in the Loop
We want to encourage all parents to communicate changes in sleep, feeding, medications, routines, or anything happening at home that may affect your child’s day with their teachers. Even small updates can help teachers better support your little one.

Closures & Upcoming Events
📌School Closures
- Early Release Day on October 20th | Staff Development Day | All students will need to be picked up by 4:00pm
🫖 Grandparent’s Day Celebrations– We wanted to thank all of our Grandparents who participated in the Grandparents day celebration. It was nice to see the kids interact with you. 💕
Sensory Crawl on October 30 — Students will explore a sensory activity in the spirit of the holiday. Because Halloween may be unfamiliar to young children, costumes and large celebrations can make the classroom feel unsettling and may trigger a fight-or-flight response. To avoid added pressure or sensory overload, we will keep their routine predictable while introducing a fun new sensory experience.
Because costumes and traditional Halloween activities may be unfamiliar to infants and toddlers, we do not encourage families to bring elaborate costumes. Students and teachers may play dress-up that day, but please keep in mind that young children often feel more comfortable with simple activities and a familiar routine.
